I'm blogging this story mostly so I will continue to remember it.
A few weeks ago Addison was eating breakfast at the dining room table. She was finishing up and reached for a few post-it notes that I had written on the night before. As she often does she will pretend to read words on paper and will invent what is written. She often reads things as if they are cards or letters (Dear Addison....). I was fixing my own breakfast in the kitchen, so I heard her speaking but wasn't fully listening to the "letter" she was reading. As she wrapped up the "letter" my ears perked up as she said:
"I love you and miss you. I love you. Love, John & Kathryn".
I stopped in my tracks and turned and asked her what she said? She repeated the above again. I immediately wondered who she knew by those names. She has a friend named John in class, and Kathryn is her cousin Taylor's middle name, but I don't think she knows anyone who's first name is Kathryn. But they aren't really connected and Addison hasn't ever said those two names together. I was struck by the moment and meant to tell my Dad about it later.
About two days later, I was telling Thad this story while he was sitting with Addison and I in the playroom. He turned to Addison and said, "Addison, who is Kathryn?" Addison said, "She's a girl... well a lady, but not like us. She takes care of me while I'm sleeping. She watches over me while I sleep."
I'm not really one for chills running down the spine or anything but this was a definite Twilight Zone moment for me.
For those of you who aren't in the Janke family: John and Kathryn are my Paternal Pop Pop and Grandma who passed away when I was in high school and college.
