A DCRuszkowski Family Tradition

We have very few traditions in our lives.  But one that we began the year Addison was born was a trip down to the Capital to see the Memorial Day Concert.  We don't get downtown near enough- but it is always nice to be able to hop on the metro to attend such a Patriotic event.   We have taken a family picture by the capital each year.  Here is a little flashback to the last 4 years...

Africa

Last night we read Addison a new book for her bedtime book.  We picked up Anansi the Spider from the Library.   I have used this book in Theatre camps for kids in the past, so I really enjoy it.  It is an English translation of an Ashanti tale about how the moon came to be. 

We opened to the first page (before the text began) and there was a picture of a map of Africa.  Addison yells out, "It's Africa!"  I have no clue how she knows what Africa looks like or how she made that connection, but I was shocked.   My kid knows what Africa is... how cultured is she?  haha.

Wednesday Addison-ism

Driving to work this morning I handed Addison a juice box for the ride to Ms. Josephine's.  She seemed to be struggling a little so when I got to a red light I asked her if she needed help with the straw.  She said to me, "Mommy, I've got it under control."

I mean, I know she looks like me and all, but if it wasn't obvious she was my offspring before- this pretty much clears up any doubt.
